Patty’s 17th Birthday

Patty’s 17th birthday came in three parts this year. The first part was a picnic with her friends at the Munroe Falls Metro Park. Hot dogs were made, presents were given, and Patty and her friends enjoyed swimming, going on the paddle boats, and had a really nice time there. The second part of the birthday was the cookout, which is exclusively for family.

Her Grandma, both her parents and siblings attended her birthday cookout. There were presents and a cake. This was also a good time. The third part is a day with me, her Dad. We went to Summit Mall and got her gifts at the Bath and Body Works. We enjoyed some StarBucks while we walked around the mall for a bit, before deciding to go to another store. She wanted The Last of Us video game for the PS3. I introduced her to Pad Thai. She enjoyed that more than Chinese, which is what she usually requests for her birthday dinner. We finished up the day by getting the books her and Eddy need for summer reading.

Patty is going to be a high school senior this year and it is going to be a very busy year for everyone. She got to enjoy this birthday, but who knows what the next year will hold. She has to start making choices about college, taking a SAT and/or ACT, and keep up with all of her after school activities. We are hoping that she is chosen for Varsity lacrosse this year, but we will have to see how that works out in the Spring. The rest of the pictures can be found on the pictures page.

First Bike Rides of 2014

It was a very long and unpleasant winter in North East Ohio. The winter hung around well into March and when the sub degree temperatures went away and the snow finally melted it was time to stretch our legs on the Towpath. The beginning of the year started with a trip north to Akron. It was not exactly warm and by the time we got home it was in the high 40’s.

Eddy has a new bike this year. The bright blue bike you see was last years model purchased at Eddy’s Bike Shop in Stow. It was time for an upgrade after he tolerated a less than reliable 90’s mountain bike that we got used. This bike is more of a hybrid and it is larger. It really allows him to comfortably go for longer rides. He also inherited the bike rack and bag from my old bike.

The next trip was a lot longer. It was going south and enjoying going up and down a rather large hill about 10 miles south of here. The plan for this summer is to continue south to Canal Fulton. There are interesting sites that way. Including horses still tugging boats down the canal, which was what the towpath was originally designed for. There is also a hotdog stand with ice cream that might make for a nice treat.

Christmas 2013

The pictures taken encompass what is really the Christmas season. They are from when the decorations were going up around the house, after Thanksgiving. The tradition handed down to me is that the tree and decorations should go up at or right after Thanksgiving. The decorations come down New Years Day. They are from right before we would depart to St. Bernard Catholic Church for midnight mass on Christmas Eve/Christmas day. Another tradition that unfortunately Michelle was not able to participate in this year. They are from my home and they are from my sister and brother-in-laws house on Christmas day. We were invited there for dinner and it ended up being a fantastic day.

Christmas was absolutely wonderful this year. Having the kids and family around made it quite special. This was definitely a Christmas to remember. All the pictures can be found on the pictures page.

Cleveland Zoo

There were a few things that I wanted to cross off the list for this summer and I’m happy to say that one of them got done. The kids and I went to the Cleveland Zoo. Originally, the plan was that we were all going to go to the Akron Zoo, but upon further investigation it seems that the Akron Zoo, while nice, is perhaps not really big enough nor does it have enough to occupy children who are high school age.

The decision to go to the Cleveland Zoo ended up being a very good one. We all had a lot of fun and there was so much to see and do that honestly we are considering getting a year pass for the zoo next year, because that will allow us to go several times next year. All the pictures were collected and they can all be found on the pictures page.

Eddy’s Birthday 2013

This marks Eddy’s 15th birthday. Another birthday means another chance to have a cookout. This cookout was unfortunately cut a bit short by the weather. The pictures had to be taken inside and Eddy is quite soaked from having to run outside and help move the birthday party indoors. Luckily the food had already been prepared and it was not a problem having everyone come inside to eat.

Eddy got everything he asked for, which is to say that all he asked for was this collection of books. The books are very important to him, because he likes to read them and to draw. He was very pleased with this and his pair of new jeans. There is one book missing from the picture and that is because it was on back order. That has since been resolved. As usual all the pictures can be found on the pictures page.

Easter 2013

All three of the children were here for Easter this year, which of course is a very good thing. They all received a bunch of candy. They got Peeps, a chocolate Easter bunny, jelly beans, and various chocolate and marshmallow filled goodness. They also all received a small gift. This family has a tradition of small gifts for Easter. The girls both got summer scarves, which are apparently very popular, and James got Pokemon playing cards. We attended Easter mass at St. Bernard’s that evening. All the pictures taken that morning can be found on the pictures page.

Hoban Freshman Football 2012

The football season is officially over. This was James’ first year playing football and he had a great time. The coaches said he worked very hard and made a great deal of progress throughout the year. I was able to attend every game, his sister, Patty, was able to attend most of the games, and his Grandmother and Mother managed to make it out to one game each. The Archbishop Hoban Freshman football team went 10-0 and with that record became the first undefeated football team in the school’s long history. All the pictures that were taken throughout the year can be found on the pictures page.

First Day Back to School!

These are a collection of pictures taken on the three separate days that each of my children went off to start their first day of school for this year. For Eddy this is his first day of high school, for Patty this is her Sophomore year, and for Michelle this is her last year of high school.

Bike Ride and a Cookout

We took a nearly 25 mile bike ride going south from our house on the Towpath. That is us at nearly the bottom of the map. Patty and Eddy are pointing to the “You Are Here”. We have never traveled that south on the Towpath before and if we were to continue we would probably see a new map. Seeing a new map is definitely a new goal for us. It will have to be some time when we get a better meal before our trip though, since we were all getting rather hungry and had to turn around and go back home.

I called my Grandmother before we got home and asked her to put the potatoes in the sink so start soaking. Patty is still going faster than Eddy and I, so I asked her if she beat us home, which she did, to take the grill out and start it if she could. It all came together perfectly. There were hamburgers, steak, baked potatoes, and a salad. It was all very good and we ate to our fill. We ended the night by watching a few movies. Here are all the pictures from the trip.
