Kent Fireworks
There was a rainstorm on July 4th in Akron. It came down hard and for almost the entire night, which made it so going downtown was not a good plan. The fireworks were probably cancelled. The backup plan was to take a much longer bike ride and enjoy the festivities in Kent.
Eddy did not end up making the ride this year, but Patty went. This was Patty’s first time riding the Freedom Trail. This was also the first time going to Kent for 4th of July fireworks. It was a tradition for years going to downtown Akron, but even despite the rainstorm downtown Akron has certainly lost some of its charm since the year that the festivities were cancelled. This was all part of the Kent Heritage Festival that they do every year. It was a good time – there was food and music. The fireworks were visible from railroad tracks near Kent’s downtown area. Riding back to Akron it was necessary to have a bike light on for most of the trip – the Freedom Trail gets very dark at night.

Pokemon Go Adventures
This needs to be an ongoing series of pictures. I have been playing Pokemon Go for a couple years now and I have gotten a few people to play the game. It is about time to start taking pictures and remembering some of these times we went out and played. This picture was taken in downtown Akron using the camera in Pokemon Go, which allows you to go ahead and place one of your Pokemon in the picture. It is a cute feature.
Father’s Day
Eddy’s 18th Birthday
The thunderstorm warning ran across the top of the television and it seemed as though the cookout would be ruined. The rain did come pouring down with lightning and thunder and if it were not for Eddy holding an umbrella and a plate the last burgers would not have successfully come off the grill. Luckily the storm also did not keep his mother and two sisters from attending who had to drive from Cleveland. This was the second time this year that rain nearly ruined a cookout.
Dinner was served inside. The rain had since stopped, but it was better not to chance it by setting up chairs and a table outside. Next Eddy opened his gifts. Starting with a card from Michelle. The big gift from his Mother and I was next. Everyone helped him unwrap it a bit when he sat and stared at the present. It was the laptop for his college classes, which he starts August 29th. As usual the pictures can be found on the pictures page.
Patty’s 19th Birthday
The rain came early and held off for the better part of the day, which allowed the cookout to be held completely outside, which is a very good thing. Everyone got exactly what they wanted to eat, which is no small task considering that meant burgers, hotdogs, chicken,
and black bean burgers. The grill went for over three hours. Grandma is not in any of the pictures. The humidity got to her and she had to go back to the air conditioning. There were quite a few people in attendance and Patty was very happy with her birthday. The pictures can be found on the pictures page.
Eddy’s High School Graduation
Eddy graduated from Archbishop Hoban High School on May 29th, 2016. He will continue on his education at the University of Akron this fall. He is planning on majoring in Graphic Design. The rest of the pictures from the graduation can be found on the pictures page.
Michelle’s Tri-C Graduation
Michelle graduated from Tri-C with an associates degree receiving the distinction of Summa Cum Laude on May 19, 2016. The graduation was held at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, which we were just at several years ago for her high school graduation. The rest of the pictures can be found on the pictures page.
State of the Children 2016
Michelle is getting set to graduate from Cuyahoga Community College. She has been taking as many classes as she can in order to graduate. Her grades have been very good. She made the Dean’s List and she is taking Honor’s courses. What is in store for her after graduation? She is looking at continuing her education. There is a college in Maine that has grabbed her attention the enticing part of this spectacular move is the focus on the environment. She plans on applying there. It will certainly be interesting to see what happens next.
Patty has started her second semester of classes at Notre Dame College. She originally had planned on getting a nursing degree, but has since decided to lean more towards psychology. She is still playing in the marching band and the orchestra and has a long road ahead of her. She is working and coming home occasionally to do laundry.
Eddy is enjoying his last year of high school. Football is over and now he is focused entirely on his academics. He is also staying after school quite often to make use of the new workout room constructed this year. He is applying to college and will certainly be in for new challenges later this year.
